Omakase, is a Japanese phrase that means “I’ll leave it up to you”. In the Japanese culinary scene, it’s a tradition that allows the chef to have creative freedom when determining the options that he will present. This gives customers a memorable experience.
Having an Omakase experience has been on our Bucket List for a while now. We had to make sure to choose one of the best places we knew in Puerto Rico. ISushi, , located on Ashford Avenue, is characterized for importing high quality fresh fish directly from the Toyosu Market in Tokyo, Japan every week. They also offer a varied menu to please the palate of each guest who visits them.
It was our first time and we couldn’t contain our excitement, from the moment we walked in we knew it would be a great night. An Omakase experience is quite difficult to describe with words, so you definitely need to experience it yourself.
After letting the chef know our particular tastes, our dinner begins and the chef brings the following creations:
- Yellowtail
- Big Eye
- Bluefin (chutoro)
- Uni with Quail Egg and Salmon Roe
- Scallop with Toro and Tempura Flakes on top
- Ika / Squid and Uni
- Suzuki, Japanese Stripped Bass and monk fish liver
- King Salmon Avocado and Salmon Roe
- Otoro
- Sayori/ Half Beak
- Kamasu baby Barracuda, Scallion and Ginger
- Kings Salmon Belly
- Shrimp (Amaebi Sweet Shrimp)
When I told you that we knew that our experience would be great, I did not lie because we had two in one. In addition to the Omakase we had the opportunity to try Kobe Beef Strip Steak for the first time. It’s the most expensive meat in the world, this is not a regular meat since it has the highest degree of marbling and quality, with a grade of A5/BMS 12. We also had the opportunity to try a Japanese alcoholic drink called Sake, this is made from the fermentation of rice. Each Sake has a different profile, some are consumed cold and others are hot.
